The Small Catechism

Martin Luther firmly believed that teaching and learning the faith (catechesis) is a life-long endeavor. It begins at home as the head of the household shares with all family members the chief parts of our Christian faith. Catechesis continues in the church as pastors continue teaching people of all ages building upon the Christian instruction begun by faithful parents. Luther wrote the Small Catechism in 1529. It was intended for daily use by all Christians as it helps us remember what we believe, teach and confess… what we hold to so dearly.

What follows are links to Luther’s Small Catechism as well as to the Book of Concord which contains the doctrine of our Lutheran Church – what we believe and why we believe it. What you will find in both is the fact that all of our doctrine and teaching is based simply, solely on the Word of God.
